Join a Guided Black History Tour

Participate in a Guided Black History Walking Tour about the Black community at UC Berkeley! This tour was written and designed by long-time staff member and alumna Gia White (‘86). The tour draws from her extensive research about the earliest Black students at UC Berkeley (see "As I Walk These Paths"), a few of our many notable Black faculty members, and the special spaces that Black people have fought to create for Black people on the campus.

To RSVP for an upcoming tour date, complete this google form: https://forms.gle/KFLFBf2B6dCiXEMr9. You will receive a confirmation email in advance of the selected tour date. Tours will begin at the Koret Visitor Center/Cal Athletic Hall of Fame, Memorial Stadium at 12:00 pm on the specified date, and last for approximately 90 minutes.

To see supplemental sources about Black history at UC Berkeley, visit the "Black History at Cal" library research guide by Michele McKenzie (UC Berkeley Librarian of African American Studies, African Studies, and Anthropoloy) and the interactive tour map by Susan Powell (UC Berkeley GIS & Map Librarian).

Gia White is the Administrative Director for both Global, International and Area Studies and the Institute of European Studies. Gia White also serves as a steering committee member for Black Lives at Cal. Finally, Gia White would like to extend a special thank you to the Black Studies Collaboratory for funding this project.
